About Triund
Triund is the crown jewel of Dharamshala , situated in the laps of Dhauladhar mountains, it has the perfect view of the Dhauladhar mountains on one side and Kangra valley on the other. Triund is a very popular trekking spot . Triund attracts a lot of tourist every year from India and all over the world.
Triund is a large land of green grass. One can see the mighty Dhauladhar range. The ridge elevation is between 2,810 and 2,875 metres. It is a one-day trek approx. 10 kilometres (one way) from Mcleod Ganj us stand and under 6 kilometres (one way) from Galu temple near Dharamkot. The trail is rocky and cut in steps at some places. From Galu Devi Temple there is an unambiguous byway which goes through a beautiful forest of oak and oak trees.

Triund trek can be described as a tranquil trek which can be easily accomplished by almost all age groups . Triund is come-at-able for most part of the year except for when the byway to Triund is cut off by heavy snowfall in the months of January and February . Trip to Triund can be planed diversely.
The trail to Triund is short but steep. The steep climb is well-compensated by refreshing walks amongst rhododendron and oak trees. There are also various songbirds in the forests along the trail which make it a birdwatcher’s delight.

Best Time To Visit Triund Trek
Triund trek is accessible throughout the year, but heavy snowfall during January and February make it really difficult to trek and is advisable not to trek during these months unless you have some experience of difficult treks or you are an expert. The best time to visit Triund is from March to June because of the cozy and comfortable weather and clear views. The weather in Triund is cool and comfortable round the year, except for chilly winter months.
How To Reach Triund
Triund is a 6 km trek from Galu Devi Temple and 10 km trek from Mc Leodganj. Mcleod Ganj can be reached by bus and trekking can be started from Mcleod Ganj itself. And in order to make the activity little easy and time saving one can take a cab to Galu Devi temple which will cost you around 200 rs. for one side.
You can take your own vehicle to Galu Devi Temple but the way to Galu Devi teple is not perfectly built and it is advisable that the vehicle should be drived by an expert. It is about 4 km harsh drive with single lane unbuilt road in mountains so need to be derived very very carefully.

Alternate Way Through Bhagsunag
One can also start trek from Bhagsu Nag, but it is not a preferable root by many as it is a 9 km long trek with a higher difficulty level. There is no policeman to check your timing and you may not find any cafe or tea stall during the trek, but there is a famous Shiva Cafe at the starting of the trek.

Triund Trek is very easy trek, even done by families with there children. It is the best and the easiest trek if one wants to enjoy the mesmerizing view of the hills and experience the nature. The last one Kilometer of the trek is a bit difficult one bust first 5 Kms are really very easy
Time Restriction for the Trek : You can reach Galu Devi temple on a taxi from Mcleod Ganj and start your trek. One must reach here by 11 am as the policemen here would not allow you to trek after 11 am. One can go between 11 am to 2 pm if one has the booking of the room of the government guest house on the top. No one will be allowed to start trek after 2pm according to new rules. You can book your government guest house before 5 days before trek at approximately 1000 Rs. for room of two people. The camping has been banned over the top. So you will find no tents over the top because of fine of Rs.5000. And there are 2-3 more guest houses over the top which will provide bed at price of rupees 500 per person depending upon the availability.
If you contact with any private company for the trek they will make you stay in tent houses somewhere 1 km before the Triund Top as camping over top is banned, and you can also bore your own tent somewhere down the hill but not on the top.
Checking By the Guard: The guard over there will checks bags, as alcohol and loud speakers are not allowed to be taken along, and he will also note down how much water bottles and packets are being taken along by the trekkers as no one is allowed to liter them over there and throw it in dustbin after returning back. One also has to bring his Valid ID proof to show to the Policemen.
There is no signal during the trek and signals are lost after 2 km from Gallu Devi Temple.
There is no bathroom over the top and one has to go in open. Even there is no bathroom at Government Guest House or the Private Guest House over there.

Day 2: Trek to Triund Top
It is advisable to start trek by 9 am from the Gallu Devi temple and reach the top by 2 pm. And enjoy the view for a couple of hours and there are two options- whether to trek back towards Galu Devi and reach Mcleod Ganj the same day, it will take about 3 hours to trek back, so even if you start by 4 pm, you will be done by 7 pm. Or the other option is that you can stay over there by renting the private guest house and trek back to Gallu Devi the next day.
