About Nag Tibba Peak

Nag Tibba which means Serpent’s or Snake’s Peak the height of which is 3,022 metres or 9,915 ft, is the highest peak in the lesser himalayan region of Uttarakhand state in Garhwal Division, and lends its name to the ‘Nag Tibba Range’, itself. It is situated around 57 km from Mossurie in Tehri Gharwal region of Uttrakhand. The ‘Nag Tibba Range’ is amongst three principal ranges of the Lesser Himalayas, which includes the Dhauladar, and the Pir Panjal, which branched off from the Great Himalayas.
About the Trek
From here, you see a 100-degree view of snow-capped Himalayan ranges such as Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Srikantha, and Gangotri. You also see Kedarnath peak in the north, Doon valley and the snow peaks of Changabang. With views like this and a climb to make you earn them, this weekend trek may be one of the best.
As you go up one side of the mountain and come down from another side, you also experience a variety of landscapes. This trek takes you through dense forests, clearings and ridge walks. All within two days!

Best Time To Visit Nag Tibba

Though Nag Tibba is a year-round destination, the best time to visit Nag Tibba is mid-November to March is the best season for Nag Tibba trek.
How To Reach Nag Tibba?
Nag Tibba is a 10 km trek from the base camps in Pantwari, located at a distance of 60 km from Mussoorie.
Nearest Railway Station: Dehradun is the nearest railway head. Mussoorie is located at a distance of 33 km from the railway head.
Tips – Must Read
Once your reach Mussorie you can board a public transport bus or a taxi to Pantwari. From where you can also lend Tents at about 300 per tent for 2 or three people accomodating in a single tent and sleeping bags at around 100 to 150 per person if you don’t carry yours. You can start your trek from Pantwari towards Nag Tibba top and must carry 2 litres water per person as there are only 2 or 3 water spots on the way to top. You can board your tent at a point called Nag Tibba base camp place where you also may find other trekkers as it is the main spot for putting a camp. People may carry something to cook and eat you must carry a portable stove or lightening tools if you want to cook over there. You can also carry dryfruits as they are easy to carry and have enough calories to keep you energetic, you should also varry some sugar along with dryfruits as a source of Glucose. Else you can carry is biscuits chocolates etc. Head towards Summit next early morning at aroun 5 am and reach summit by 9 am and enjoy the view about 1 or 2 hours and you can now trek down to Pantwari which will take 6 hours aprox. And you can ahead towards your place through Public Transport from Pantwari. The people must keep in mind and respect the traditions of that people and must not carry or consume alchohol during the trek. As it may be proven dangerous and also against the tradition of the people over there.

Ideal Itinerary

Day 1: Day in Mussoorie
- It would be best if person reach Musoorie by morning. This could happen if a person travels overnight or travel early morning and reach Mussorie by 2 pm and take a hotel over there and rest some time and then can enjoy sightseeing in Mussorie (Mall Road etc.)
- Places to visit: Kempty Falls, Lake Mist, Mussoorie Lake, and Library Bazaar are some of the places to visit in Mussoorie.
- Where to stay in Mussoorie: JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa, The Golden Palms Hotel & Spa, and Hotel Brentwood are some of the best resorts and hotels in Mussoorie. You would find some budget hotels also on other sites such as Makemytrip or Oyo.

Day 2: Drive to Pantwari and trek to the Basecamp
- Altitude: 2600 m above the sea level
- Highlights of the day: Check-out after breakfast and then go to Pantwari by road by public transport or cab early morning at about 7 am.
- You can lend tents and sleeping bags if you don’t have yours from Pantwari and start your journey to Nag Tibba base camp.
- Overnight stay in your base camp.

Day 3: Trek to the Nag Tibba Summit

- Rest over summit for a couple of hours and trek back to Pantwari

Starting from Pantwari, a quiet hamlet in the vicinity of Dehradun-Mussoorie, the trek begins up a rocky ascent and after a couple of hours on the trail, enters the grove of oaks and rhododendrons. In warmer times on this path, you will be greeted with summer blossoms and greenery while winter comes with abundance of snow. The camping for the night is in a clearing at the edge of the forest, overlooking the undulations of the Lesser Himalayan green slopes expanding far and beyond. The trek goes on up to Nag Tibba base, marked by a temple dedicated to the serpent god, and from there to Nag Tibba top. The climax of the hike comes with the unveiling of a vision of the Gangotri group of peaks. From the high point of Nag Tibba, you can mark out Bandarpoonch, Kedarnath and Chanabang—all absolutely mesmerizing snow peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas.
